De f\u00f6rsta hamnanordningarna utgjordes av en p\u00e5 p\u00e5lar uppf\u00f6rd brygga, vilken under de l\u00e5ngvariga krigen f\u00f6rst\u00f6rdes. P\u00e5 1700-talet blev denna brygga \u00e5ter ist\u00e5ndsatt med av staten beviljade medel, vilka under \u00e5ren 1726 &#8211; 1758 uppgick till sammanlagt omkring 26,000 daler silvermynt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under \u00e5ren 1809 &#8211; 1816 blev bryggan f\u00f6rl\u00e4ngd och f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttrad samt till skydd f\u00f6rsedd med tv\u00e4rs framf\u00f6r yttre \u00e4ndan neds\u00e4nkta stenkistor, som bildade en <em>friliggande v\u00e5gbrytare<\/em>. I november 1825 rasade en sv\u00e5r storm, som f\u00f6rst\u00f6rde bryggan. \u00c5r 1828 p\u00e5b\u00f6rjades byggandet av den &#8217;inre hamnen&#8217;, eller centralhamnen, som den numera ben\u00e4mnes. Staten g\u00e4ldade kostnaden genom att bevilja ett belopp av 221,000 kronor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Denna hamn blev fullt f\u00e4rdig \u00e5r 1832 och f\u00f6rst fr\u00e5n n\u00e4mnda \u00e5r kan man s\u00e4ga, att H\u00e4lsingborg var \u00e4gare till en verklig hamn., om \u00e4n djupet icke n\u00e5gonst\u00e4des \u00f6versteg 3,3 meter. Hamnen, som s\u00e5ledes hade karakt\u00e4r av <em>statshamn<\/em>, blev h\u00f6gtidligt invigd av Karl XIV Johan, som till minne d\u00e4rav inskrev sitt namn \u00e5 en sten i v\u00e5gbrytarens huvud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c5r 1863 \u00f6verl\u00e4mnades hamnen av staten till <em>staden<\/em> och samma \u00e5r besl\u00f6t man att vidtaga f\u00f6rb\u00e4ttringar och utvidgning av hamnen, vilket arbete fullbordades \u00e5r 1867, och varigenom erh\u00f6lls den inre, vattenbass\u00e4ngen i nuvarande centralhamnen. Under \u00e5ren 1872 &#8211; 1879 f\u00f6retogs ytterligare utvidgningsarbeten varigenom \u00e5stadkoms den s.k. s\u00f6dra hamnen, vilken under de n\u00e4rmast f\u00f6ljande \u00e5ren tillgodos\u00e5g trafiken. P\u00e5 grund av den alltj\u00e4mt stegrade trafiken p\u00e5 hamnen besl\u00f6t man redan \u00e5r 1884 att bygga \u00e4nnu en hamnbass\u00e4ng, vilken blev f\u00e4rdig 1892 och invigdes av Oscar II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00c5r 1918 p\u00e5b\u00f6rjades H\u00e4lsingborgs senaste hamnutvidgning, som medger fartyg av aktningsv\u00e4rda dimensioner och djupg\u00e5ende att bes\u00f6ka hamnen. L\u00e4get vid \u00d6resund \u00e4r ett av de b\u00e4sta t\u00e4nkbara, men de i sundet r\u00e5dande str\u00f6mmarna inverkar ofta menligt vid fartygs inf\u00f6rande i hamnen. Trafiken p\u00e5 hamnen inrangerar H\u00e4lsingborgs hamn p\u00e5 fj\u00e4rde plats av rikets <em>storhamnar<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Den 11 april \u00e5r 1876 rasade i \u00d6resund en v\u00e5ldsamt v\u00e4stlig storm, som senare p\u00e5 dagen \u00f6vergick i nordv\u00e4stlig. M\u00e5nga fartyg antingen strandade p\u00e5 svenska kusten eller havererade p\u00e5 annat s\u00e4tt. Vid middagstiden drev en tysk skonert <em>\u201dElvine\u201d<\/em> p\u00e5 grund omedelbart norr om H\u00e4lsingborgs hamn. D\u00e5 bes\u00e4ttningen ans\u00e5gs sv\u00e4va i fara f\u00f6r sina liv, besl\u00f6t fem m\u00e4n, m\u00e4sterlotsen Jacob \u00c5str\u00f6m, lotsen Petter Kock, sj\u00f6kaptenen Nils M\u00f6ller, skepparen Carl Aug, Nilsson och sj\u00f6mannen Nils Holmgren, trots m\u00e5ngas allvarliga varningar, att med en av lotsarna tillh\u00f6rig roddsnipa bege sig ut genom hamninloppet f\u00f6r att s\u00f6ka n\u00e5 upp till fartyget och r\u00e4dda dess bes\u00e4ttning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Strax utanf\u00f6r hamninloppet kantrade emellertid b\u00e5ten i en v\u00e4ldig brottsj\u00f6. Havet tog sitt byte, i det att av de fem m\u00e4nnen endast lotsen Petter Kock f\u00f6rm\u00e5dde r\u00e4dda sig iland p\u00e5 en \u00e5ra. <em>\u201dElvine\u00b4s\u201d<\/em> bes\u00e4ttning blev sedermera r\u00e4ddad av sj\u00f6m\u00e4n och fiskare, som med stora anstr\u00e4ngningar lyckades sj\u00f6s\u00e4tta en b\u00e5t \u00f6ver hamnpiren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>P\u00e5 grund av den skarpa kritik som framkom i pressen mot det of\u00f6rsvarliga i att r\u00e4ddningsattiralj saknades, blev H\u00e4lsingborgs livr\u00e4ddningsstation, som lyder under Lotsverket, uppr\u00e4ttat redan samma \u00e5r p\u00e5 sommaren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fyren, sammanbyggd med bostadshus f\u00f6r fyrbetj\u00e4ningen och vaktrum f\u00f6r lotsarna, uppf\u00f6rdes \u00e5r 1889. Intill 1927 lyste fyren med fast sken \u00f6ver farleden, var m\u00f6rk \u00f6ver Kn\u00e4haken i s\u00f6der samt klippte tv\u00e5 klipp \u00f6ver Hittarps revet och grunden norr\u00f6ver. \u00c5r 1922 inf\u00f6rdes elektriskt ljus, med automatiskt verkande alarmapparat. \u00c5r 1927 \u00e4ndrades skenet till intermittent, gr\u00f6nt i farleden samt r\u00f6tt i klippan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lotsar
